Is the Dental Implant Procedure Painful?

July 20, 2020 by Brueggen Dental

Is the Dental Implant Procedure Painful?

Dental implants are becoming the “go to” option for individuals who have lost teeth because of injury or tooth decay. The reason why is because they’re relatively inexpensive, aren’t associated with pain or discomfort, and have a success rate of more than 90%. But the real question holds, will you experience pain during or after the implant? Considering that this is the main question people bear in mind regarding the procedure, we’ll go ahead and answer it.

During the Procedure

During the procedure, you won’t feel anything. Expect your dentist to provide local anesthesia and expect the installment of the new root to last for about 1 hour. During the second phase of the operation, when the artificial tooth is being installed, you also won’t be experiencing any pain or discomfort.

After the Procedure

Some people may experience a slight amount of discomfort post-surgery, but this is nowhere near the pain associated with other dental-related work. The fact that you’ve installed a new, titanium root into your jaw bone may feel awkward at most, but few patients will experience any significant amount of pain.

Over-the-Counter Pain Reducers

To lessen mild discomfort, you can opt to take over-the-counter medications. However, you’ll have that they likely won’t be necessary. After the installment of the root, you can start work, operate motor vehicles, and partake in everyday activities like normal. Compared to bridges, dentures, or partials, dental implants are among the safest and most painless operations that you’ll never undergo inside a dentist’s office.
